  • The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is the mechanism through which .NET code is executed.Because it controls how a .NET program executes and sits between the program and the operating system, see figure 1. It can implement security, versioning support, automatic memory management through garbage collection, and provide transparent access to system services.When a program is compiled for the CLR,it is converted to a portable executable (PE) file that consists of different sections.
